Important Update Regarding Saturday, March 14, 2020

Dear RSU 24 Community,

We are continuing to monitor the COVID-19 situation that is impacting the country, our state, and events of all kinds. The health and well-being of our staff, students, and community is our number one priority. With that being said, tomorrow (Saturday) we will not be having students attend school as originally planned, and instead will be having a Staff-Only day at each building to discuss and make plans for the continuation of education in the event of a school closure.

We will continue to update you as information is made available to us. More information will be provided by Superintendent Eastman in the next couple of days. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we all work through this difficult time.

Coronavirus Letter

RSU 24 recognizes there are concerns about the potential for the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) within the United States and its possible impact on students, staff and schools in Maine. As we have done in the past (“SARS” virus in 2003 and the “Swine Flu H1N1” in 2009), RSU 24 will follow the guidance of the Maine CDC in conjunction with the frequent updates and communications we receive from the Maine Department of Education. Please click on the title above for additional details or visit the Maine CDC website at

Important Announcement from Mr. Eastman, Superintendent

It has come to our attention that a threat has been made against 10 high schools throughout the state. Sumner Memorial is not included on the list. The State Police and FBI are involved. To ensure the safety of our students and staff, employees in our schools will be vigilant and take extra precautions regarding visitors and student safety.
